Cookie Policy
This policy explains how World Cup Guide uses cookies and similar technologies (including local storage) when you visit from the United Kingdom. It is written to meet UK GDPR and PECR requirements in plain language.
What we use
This site is a tournament guide. We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts. Storage on your device is limited to remembering your cookie choice and, if you consent, a small number of optional preferences.
Essential storage
Essential storage is required for the site to work and to record your consent. Under UK law, we do not need your consent for strictly necessary storage, but we still tell you what we use.
| Name / key | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
wc-cookie-consent | Local storage | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional storage, and your category choices. | Until you clear site data or change preferences |
Non-essential storage (requires consent)
If you choose Accept all or enable Preferences in cookie settings, we may store the following on your device. If you reject non-essential storage, we do not read or write these keys.
| Name / key | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
football-fact-hint-dismissed | Local storage | Remembers that you dismissed the World Cup fact tip so it is not shown again. | Until you clear site data or withdraw consent |
Analytics
We do not currently use analytics cookies or measurement scripts. The preferences panel includes an Analytics option so you can refuse it in advance if we add anonymous usage measurement in future. Nothing is loaded unless you consent and we implement it.
Browser notifications
This site does not request browser notification permission and does not store notification-related data on your device.
Third-party content
Match analysis is generated using Google Gemini on our servers when you view certain pages. That processing uses API calls from our infrastructure, not tracking cookies placed on your browser. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts when you visit; your browser may connect to Google's servers as part of normal page delivery.
How to change your preferences
You can update your choice at any time:
- Use on this page or in the site footer.
- Clear site data for this domain in your browser settings (this also clears saved preferences and will show the cookie banner again).
Withdrawing consent for non-essential storage stops new preference data being saved. It does not affect your ability to browse scores, standings, teams, or other core features.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have rights over your personal data, including access, correction, and erasure where applicable. Most data on this site is stored locally on your device rather than in our databases. For more detail, see our Privacy policy.
